The *Sutra on the Buddha's Past Life Alms-Round*, translated by the eminent monk Dharmarakṣa during the Western Jin Dynasty, is an important Buddhist scripture. This sutra originates from the *Collection of Sutras on the Six Perfections* and, in the form of a Jātaka tale, records how Śākyamuni Buddha, during his cultivation in a past life, manifested as a bhikṣu on an alms-round, demonstrating for sentient beings the path of cultivating forbearance and compassion. Through the conduct of the Buddha in his past life, the sutra elucidates the practices of the perfections—such as giving, moral discipline, and forbearance—that a bodhisattva practitioner should embody. This scripture not only reflects the doctrinal thought of early Mahāyāna Buddhism but also provides important textual evidence for the study of Buddhist scripture translation and dissemination during the Han and Jin periods, holding a unique position within the Buddhist canonical system.
