The "Presentation of the Doctrine" is a Buddhist scripture compiled by the eminent Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang under the imperial decree of Emperor Taizong of Tang. In the twenty-second year of the Zhenguan era, Xuanzang translated the most essential seventeenth volume of the important Yogācāra treatise "Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra" at Hongfu Temple and presented it to Emperor Taizong, hence its name. The content focuses on expounding the Dharma-characteristics and Consciousness-only thought centered on the Ālaya-vijñāna and seed theories, systematically discussing the profound principle that all phenomena are manifestations of consciousness. This treatise is one of the foundational texts for the establishment of the Faxiang School and played a pivotal role in shaping the Consciousness-only system of Chinese Buddhism. It remains a key document for studying the thought of the Indian Mahāyāna Yogācāra school and Chinese Consciousness-only philosophy.
