The Sutra of the Mantra of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Spoken by the Buddha
西天譯經三藏朝散大夫試鴻臚少卿傳教大師臣法天奉 詔譯
Translated by Dharma Deva, Master of Propagation, Court Minister, and Tripitaka Master of the Western Regions, under Imperial Decree.
歸依普遍虛空界， 三世清淨平等因，
性等法光正覺道， 變化人天利樂身，
示居十地自在位， 行大施願度眾生，
功德相嚴名普賢， 今說真言祕密教。
I take refuge in the all-pervading realm of space, The pure and equal cause across the three times.
The nature of Dharma-light, the path of true awakening, Manifests in forms that bring joy to humans and gods.
Revealing the free and sovereign state of the ten grounds, Fulfilling great vows to liberate all beings,
Adorned with marks of virtue, known as Samantabhadra— Now I speak this mantra, the secret teaching.
爾時普賢菩薩摩訶薩欲現廣大變化而入三摩地，名三界大自在。入此三摩地已，從清淨虛空界現無數身猶如塵沙，普遍大千一切世界。
At that time, the great bodhisattva Samantabhadra, wishing to manifest a vast transformation, entered a state of deep meditation called "Sovereign Lord of the Three Realms." Upon entering this meditation, from the pure and empty expanse of space, he manifested countless bodies—as numerous as grains of sand—filling the entire great chiliocosm and all worlds.
爾時一切佛剎所有一切如來，舒其右手摩普賢菩薩摩訶薩頂，讚言：「善哉善哉！佛子！汝今當說一切佛母最上陀羅尼法。」爾時普賢菩薩身放千光普照十方，一切佛剎悉皆震動。即說陀羅尼：
At that moment, all the Buddhas across every realm extended their right hands and placed them upon the head of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, praising him, saying: "Excellent, excellent! Child of the Buddha! You shall now proclaim the supreme dhāraṇī method, the mother of all Buddhas."
Then, the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra emitted a thousand rays of light, illuminating all ten directions, causing every Buddha realm to tremble. And he spoke the dhāraṇī:
「怛儞也(二合)他(引)唵(引)曩謨(引)曩摩娑怛嚩(二合)部嚩儞(引)濕嚩(二合)囉摩賀(引)部(引)誐(引)野阿三摩三摩阿彌哆娑摩阿難陀娑摩誐誐曩娑摩怛里(二合)婆嚩娑摩(引)尾(引)沙娑摩波囉摩(引)囉他(二合)娑摩娑嚩(二合)婆(引)嚩娑摩怛他(引)誐哆娑摩阿囉惹娑摩輸弟娑摩沒馱娑摩達里摩(二合)怛他(引)誐哆(引)娑摩僧賀尾沙摩娑摩曀迦曩野娑(引)誐囉尾輸馱(引)路(引)迦呬呬羅沒馱(二合)羅沒馱(二合)尾惹野尾惹野暗(引)鉢囉(二合)設訖哆(二合)曩野(引)曩野憾唧囉(引)地瑟吒(二合)曩三部(引)誐暗娑曩(引)羅野(引)羅野達里摩(二合引)誐囉(二合)馱囉馱囉惹野惹野吽吽馱摩馱摩娑嚩(二合引)賀(引)」
爾時普賢菩薩摩訶薩說此陀羅尼已，佛即觀彼菩薩之身，是過去先佛，為悲慜一切眾生現變化身，滿於三界諸世間中。爾時諸大菩薩及天人、阿修羅等，從一切金剛峰起，離自金寶莊嚴大富貴座，來菩薩前而自唱言：「南無大慈大悲無邊大功德海最上成佛大陀羅尼法。善能饒益過去未來現在三界無數眾生，令得安住大法之位。」佛言：「若人聞此大陀羅尼法，經無邊劫所作之罪皆悉除滅，亦能枯竭煩惱大海、摧壞我見高山。譬如有人見百千佛，經無邊劫所作善根，亦不能及此真言功德。此大陀羅尼是一切如來心圓滿大功德海，而能出生菩提智種，成就一切智地，而諸佛法皆不能及。此大陀羅尼名號，假使百千那由他俱胝劫亦難得聞。若有人於此經典，受持讀誦恭敬供養，彼等眾生善解總持，能活慧命，住如來位，成就一切功德。若有人讀誦此經一遍二遍乃至三遍，彼人得最上功德，能滅一切罪、能斷一切煩惱，復得值遇諸佛如來，不受一切憂愁苦惱。若於寂靜之處獨樹之下一心持誦，彼人獲得一切成就之法，眾所愛敬。若有人於大林野結跏趺坐，誦此經典滿於七邊，彼人不久得大禪定，斷一切煩惱，復得普賢菩薩結跏趺坐而現於前。若人隨自力分以香華供養誦此陀羅尼，乃至困臥睡眠，於其夢中見普賢菩薩舒其右手，放法光明灌照身心，作如是言：『善哉善哉！佛子！如來大曼拏羅，轉身而得大菩薩位，身心安樂，具大福德智慧，常得見於普賢菩薩摩訶薩。』若人以慈悲心為一切眾生讀誦此經，彼人得十波羅蜜圓滿，滅除一切煩惱罪垢，復得天人衛護，如來讚言：『佛子！汝若依行，不久當入普賢之地。』」
At that time, after the great Bodhisattva Samantabhadra (Puxian) had spoken this Dhāraṇī (mantra), the Buddha looked upon that bodhisattva's body and saw that it was a manifestation body of an ancient Buddha, transformed out of compassion for all sentient beings, filling the entire three realms and all worlds.
Then, the great bodhisattvas, along with gods, humans, and asuras, rose from their diamond-throne seats, left their jeweled and magnificent seats of great honor, walked before the bodhisattva, and proclaimed aloud: "Homage to the great, supremely compassionate, boundless ocean of merits, the supreme Dhāraṇī method for attaining Buddhahood. It effortlessly benefits countless beings of the past, present, and future in the three realms, bringing them to dwell securely in the highest Dharma stage."
The Buddha said: "If a person hears this great Dhāraṇī Dharma, all their negative karma accumulated over countless eons will be completely erased. It can also drain the ocean of afflictions and shatter the high mountain of ego. For even if someone were to see hundreds of thousands of Buddhas and accumulate wholesome roots over countless eons, it would still not match the merit of this mantra. This great Dhāraṇī is the perfectly complete great ocean of merits of the minds of all Tathagatas (Buddhas). It gives birth to the seeds of enlightened wisdom, achieves the ground of all-knowing wisdom, and no other Buddhist teaching can match it. The name of this great Dhāraṇī is so rare that it is nearly impossible to hear, even in hundreds of thousands of billions of eons.
"If someone upholds, recites, reveres, and makes offerings to this scripture, that person will fully understand the essential truth (total retention / dhāraṇī), bring life to their wisdom, abide in the stage of a Tathagata, and perfect all merits. If someone recites this scripture once, twice, or even three times, they will attain the highest merit. It can eradicate all negative karma, sever all afflictions, and enable them to meet all Tathagatas (Buddhas), free from all sorrow, worry, and suffering.
"If someone recites this scripture with a focused mind in a peaceful place, alone beneath a tree, they will achieve success in all pursuits and be loved and respected by all. If someone sits cross-legged in a great forest or wilderness and recites this scripture seven times, they will soon attain great meditative absorption (samadhi), cut off all afflictions, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva will appear before them, also seated in a cross-legged posture.
"If someone, according to their ability, makes offerings of incense and flowers and recites this Dhāraṇī, even if they become tired and fall asleep, in their dreams they will see Samantabhadra Bodhisattva extend his right hand, releasing the light of Dharma to fill their body and mind, and say: 'Excellent, excellent! Son of the Buddha! Turn within the great mandala of the Tathagatas, and you will attain the great bodhisattva stage. Your body and mind will be at peace and joyful, you will possess great merit and wisdom, and you will always see the great Bodhisattva Samantabhadra.'
"If someone, with a compassionate heart, reads and recites this scripture for the benefit of all sentient beings, they will perfect the ten perfections (pāramitās). All afflictions and karmic impurities will be wiped away. They will also be protected by gods and humans, and the Tathagatas will praise them, saying: 'Son of the Buddha! If you practice accordingly, you will soon enter the stage of Samantabhadra.' "

Sutra on the Dharani of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Spoken by the Buddha
