Uṣṇīṣa-sitātapatra-dhāra (佛頂大白傘蓋陀羅尼經)

The Great White Parasol Dharani Sutra

Translated by State Preceptor Tripitaka Master Shaluoba, by Imperial Command

This is what I heard:

At one time, the Bhagavan was in the Hall of Good Dharma in the Heaven of the Thirty-Three, accompanied by numerous bhikkhus, great bodhisattvas, the lord Śakra, and an immeasurable assembly. Then the Bhagavan seated himself and entered the Samādhi of Universal Insight into the Uṣṇīṣa. Suddenly, from the fleshy protuberance on his head, the Bhagavan manifested a secret, subtle Dharma practice.

I pay homage to all Buddhas and all great Bodhisattvas. I pay homage to the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. I pay homage to the Seven Koti Buddhas and all the great Sravakas. I pay homage to all the Arhats in the world. I pay homage to all the Srotapannas. I pay homage to all the Sakridagamins. I pay homage to all the Anagamins. I pay homage to all those in the world who practice rightly. I pay homage to all those who are progressing towards right practice. I pay homage to all the great celestial beings and sages who can bring benefit even through spells and incantations. I pay homage to all the accomplished Vidyadharas. I pay homage to the great Brahma King and his assembly. I pay homage to Lord Indra and his assembly. I pay homage to the assembly of Rudra, Uma, Skanda, and Ganesha. I pay homage to the assembly of the Five Great Mudras, the Loveless Sons, whom we revere. I pay homage to the assembly of Mahakala, the destroyer of the three realms' strongholds, who delights in the charnel ground, the mother spirits, and who is worthy of respect.

I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the assembly of Kurukulla. I pay homage to the assembly of Padmakurukulla. I pay homage to the assembly of Vajrakurukulla. I pay homage to the assembly of Manikurukulla. I pay homage to the assembly of Hastikurukulla. I pay homage to the assembly of Kumarakurukulla. I pay homage to the assembly of Nagakurukulla.

I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Buddha of Courageous Strength, Wielder of the Weapon. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Buddha of Immeasurable Light. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Immovable Lord Buddha. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Medicine Buddha, King of Lapis Lazuli Light. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Buddha of the Universally Blooming Sala Tree Flower. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, Shakyamuni Buddha. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Buddha, King of the Jewel Banner. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Buddha, King of Universal Virtue. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, Vairocana Buddha. I pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Buddha of Far-Reaching Vision, King of the Fragrant Blue Lotus Banner.

Having thus paid homage to all the Buddhas and others, the Bhagavati, the Buddha-Crown Great White Parasol, is invincible. The Praṭaṅgirī Mother can extinguish all kinds of ghosts and spirits, cut off all mantras, release from bondage, keep away from untimely death, worries, and nightmares, and destroy the eighty-four thousand demons and the eight planets. She can also cause the twenty-eight constellations to rejoice greatly, turn back all enmity and harm, and completely eliminate all those who cause poison and harm, as well as all nightmares. Moreover, she can rescue from the perils of poison, weapons, water, and fire.

All you divine beings of the sacred gestures, I pray you protect me, I pray you protect me.

Oṃ, the one who holds the vajra, the lord of all beings, the Buddha of the Uṣṇīṣa, the great master, hūṃ truṃ. (3) The one who holds the skull, hūṃ truṃ. (4) The one who holds the skull-staff, hūṃ truṃ. (5) The great lord of beings, hūṃ truṃ. (6) The great lord of the three realms, hūṃ truṃ. (7) The lord of the three worlds, hūṃ truṃ. (8) All the Tathāgatas, (9) The one who holds the skull-staff, hūṃ truṃ. (10) All the yakṣas, rākṣasas, and piśācas, the one who holds the skull, hūṃ truṃ. (11) All the pretas, (12) All the piśācas, the one who holds the skull, hūṃ truṃ. (13) All the aṣṭagati beings, the one who holds the skull, hūṃ truṃ. (14) All the great piśācas, the one who holds the skull, hūṃ truṃ. (15) Rakṣa, rakṣa, hūṃ.

May you protect me, may you protect me. O Bhagavati, Buddha-Crown Great White Canopy, Vajra-Crested Parādaṅkīlā, With a thousand hands and a thousand arms, Possessing a hundred thousand koṭis of eyes, The non-dual blazing form, the Vajra Vast Mother, Who within the three realms attains great sovereignty, May you protect me, may you protect me.

Om, may I be safe from the fears of kings, bandits, fire, water, poison, weapons, invading armies, famine, persecution, epidemics, thunderbolts, untimely death, earthquakes, shooting stars, imprisonment, celestial beings, dragons, lightning, aerial threats, and ferocious beasts.

May I be safe from the spirits of the heavens, dragons, asuras, wind gods, aerial spirits, gandharvas, human and non-human spirits, great serpents, obstructive spirits, rakshasas, hungry ghosts, dakinis, flesh-eaters, bhutas, pot-bellied spirits, foul-smelling ghosts, extremely foul ghosts, skanda spirits, spirits of confusion, spirits of madness, demonic spirits, and all such haunting beings.

May I be safe from those who consume vitality, essence, embryos, blood, fat, flesh, marrow, the newborn, life force, vomit, impurities, urine, waste, leftovers, saliva, mucus, pus, offerings, garlands, incense, fragrances, willpower, flowers, fruits, grains, and burnt offerings.

All spells and incantations created by such beings and various ghostly spirits are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the pervasive wanderers are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the sky-goers and sky-goer mothers are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the great Bhaśubhaḍi are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the Child Without Attachment are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the flying sky righteous assemblies are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the great Kāla and the host of mother ghosts are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the skull-holders are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the Victorious Honey-Maker who accomplishes various deeds are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

All spells created by the assembly led by Vikṛtī, the Lord of Desire and Pleasure, are completely severed. The Vajra Spike is driven in.

Homage to the Bhagavān, the Buddha-Crown Great White Canopy Mother. May she protect me, may she protect me.

Furthermore, there are those who harbor thoughts of anger and hatred, those who harbor thoughts of malice and harm, and those who harbor thoughts of cruelty and violence. There are the celestial spirits, the dragon spirits, the asura spirits, the wind spirits, the sky-roaming spirits, the gandharva spirits, the kinnara spirits, the great serpent spirits, the yaksha spirits, the rakshasa spirits, the hungry ghost spirits, the dakini spirits, the flesh-eating spirits, the bhuta spirits, the pot-bellied spirits, the foul-smelling spirits, the extremely foul-smelling spirits, the skanda spirits, the deluding spirits, the maddening spirits, the nightmare spirits, the subduing spirits, the ripate spirits, the yama spirits, the bird spirits, the mother-ghost spirits, the pishacha spirits, and the thorn-removing spirits.
