The "Eulogy on the Buddha of Immeasurable Life" by Master Dao'an is a significant Buddhist text composed by the eminent monk Dao'an of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in China. This eulogy emerged during the early stages of Buddhism's introduction to China, reflecting the nascent development of Pure Land thought at the time. Written in verse form, the text praises Amitabha Buddha and his Western Pure Land, urging devotees to recite the Buddha's name with sincerity and aspire to be reborn there. Its content blends vivid descriptions of the Buddha's majestic realm with practical guidance on cultivation, expressed in earnest language aimed at strengthening practitioners' faith and resolve. As one of the key early texts of the Chinese Pure Land tradition, this eulogy not only embodies Master Dao'an's personal practice of Pure Land devotion but also laid the foundation for the widespread popularity of Buddha-recitation methods in later generations. It holds a pivotal position in the history of Chinese Buddhism, serving as a bridge between earlier and later developments.
