During the Northern Song Dynasty, Indian monk Śikṣānanda and others translated Sanskrit Buddhist scriptures into Chinese. The full title of this sutra is "The Sutra of One Hundred and Eight Sacred Names and True Perfect Meaning Dhāraṇīs from the Noble Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Lines." It belongs to the Perfection of Wisdom (Prajñāpāramitā) category. Its core content condenses the thought of emptiness (śūnyatā) in the Perfection of Wisdom into one hundred and eight sacred names and dhāraṇī mantras, explaining the principle of dependent origination and emptiness of inherent nature. It emphasizes realizing ultimate reality through recitation of esoteric mantras. This sutra integrates exoteric and esoteric teachings and holds a significant position in Chinese Buddhism. It is both an essential condensation of the wisdom of the Perfection of Wisdom and a representative early esotericized Prajñāpāramitā text, providing crucial textual basis for the study of Mahāyāna Buddhist philosophy and the development of esoteric Buddhism.

聖八千頌般若波羅蜜多一百八名真實圓義陀羅尼經

Sutra of the 108 Names and True Perfect Meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Lines

西天譯經三藏朝奉大夫試光祿卿傳法大師賜紫臣施護等奉 詔譯

Translated by the Third-Tripitaka Master of the Western Heaven, Court-Faithful Grand Master, Acting Minister of Glorious Happiness, Master

歸命最勝諸佛母, 般若波羅蜜多法,
過去未來及現在, 一切諸佛從是生。
善生諸佛為佛母, 無性自性我清淨,
佛為須菩提廣說, 如其所說今畧集。

I pay homage to the Supreme Mother of all Buddhas— The Perfection of Wisdom, the Dharma's very essence.

From her arise the Buddhas of the past, present, and future.

She gives birth to all Buddhas, acting as their mother: Naturally pure, without an independent self.

As the Buddha taught this on a grand scale to Subhūti, I now condense his words into a brief summary.

Om, Prajñe, Prajñe, Mahāprajñe!

O Prajñā of wisdom, O Lady of wisdom's path!

Prajñe loke, guru of the world:

Awakened understanding, boundless vision,

Grant supreme success, grant total success.

May I attain perfection, O Blessed Lady!

For all beings of the triple world,

For all who wander in existence,

O One of radiant, accomplished power,

O Victorious one, O Holder of truth's seal:

Make firm, make firm!

Quake, quake!

Move, move!

Glow, glow!

Blaze, blaze!

Come, come!

O Blessed Lady, Mother of the luminous, Svāhā!

I invoke you!

Hrīḥ!

Śrīḥ!

Svārupyate!

Samṛddhye!

O Victorious one, Svāhā!
