I take refuge in Vajrasattva! I will now explain the Vajra's Three Secret Gates, so that those practicing the Mantra Path may swiftly attain peace, joy, and harmony without undue hardship, through skillful means.
First, the practitioner should arouse this aspiration: “May I bring peace and benefit to all sentient beings, without exception.” To fulfill this aspiration, one should recite the self-accomplishing mantra freely.
The mantra is as follows:
Om, to all yogis, the mother of all buddhas, I pay homage.
Because one has just generated this mind and recited the mantra, all obstacles are severed, and all bliss and joy are attained. Demonic multitudes and difficult-to-tame sentient beings cannot hinder one. One becomes equal to perfect enlightenment and should receive the vast offerings of all humans and devas in the world.
Next, contemplate that all phenomena are without inherent nature—this is called having cultivated the bodhi mind. Then abide in the contemplation of Samantabhadra’s great bodhi mind, like a full moon, pure, white, and distinct. Further, visualize a five-pronged vajra emerging from the moon disk, luminous and translucent. That vajra then transforms into Vajrasattva, whose color is like the pale moon, adorned with all ornaments, wearing a five-buddha jeweled crown, his body adorned with red flames, seated upon a white lotus.
Next, perform empowerment with the great mudra and the heart mantra. The mudra posture: sit with the right foot pressing on the left in half-lotus posture. Both hands form the vajra fist: the left placed at the hip, the right in a whirling-throwing gesture pressed against the heart. Body, speech, and mind are vajra—sit upright with dignity.
Recite the heart mantra:
"Ox"
Next, form the Vajra Anjali Mudra. The seal is formed by firmly pressing the palms together, with the fingers interlocked at the first joint. The mantra is:
Vajra Jvali
Next, form the Vajra Binding Seal. The hand gesture is made by joining the palms together in the Vajra Mudra, then deeply interlocking the fingers to form a fist. The mantra is:
Vajra Mandala
All sacred seals of meditation, arise from this binding.
Next, form the Heart-Opening Seal. The mudra should open outward, breaking the bonds and striking one's own heart. The mantra is:
By subduing one's own mind, all seals and bonds are mastered through the body, speech, and mind as a vajra.
Next, form the Samaya Seal of the Vajra Penetration. The mudra is the Vajra Binding: bend both thumbs into the palms and place them between the ring and little fingers. The mantra is:
With the empowerment of this seal, all holy beings enter your body and mind, protecting and caring for you as if you were their own family.
Next, form the Samaya Vajra Fist Seal. The mudra is as in the previous seal, bending the two index fingers to press against the back of the thumbs. The mantra is:
Vajra Mushti
Next, form the Vajra Karma Mudra. The hand gesture is made by separating the previous mudra into two fists: the left hand holds the thigh, and the right hand is placed over the heart. Recite the heart mantra:
"Ox"
Next, form the Vajra Secret Samaya Mudra. The hand gesture is the Vajra Binding: make a circle with the thumb and index finger, press the tip of the right thumb, and empower the heart, forehead, throat, and crown. The mantra is:
