### 謝聖果法師作指要序啟

四明法門比丘知禮。上手聖果闍梨侍者光塵倐變。忻界尤賒。傾慕笑譚。何啻飢渴。諒惟榮履無替考詳。必誨物以忘疲。幸吾宗之不墜。知禮昨以居多暇日。因究教門。庶熟性靈。輒思訓解。念朱陵之四擇。已抱忸怩。繹荊溪之妙言。更增嗤鄙。無何諸子咸議。刊行。遏之不休。故從所欲敢期英眷。亦賜揄揚。實謂虎威俯從狐假。洎迴人之遽至。辱榮翰以荐臨。益見久要之心。足認淡成之契。瞻望載惕。睓懵交顏。方今參宿移沈。聖制非遠。必希道養以慰翹思。便价告行。謹此致訊。兼代陳謝。伏惟鑒察。不宣。四明法門比丘知禮載。白聖果闍梨天竺懺主時住聖果寺也。
> The monk of the Siming Dharma School, Zhi Li, Chih-li writes to the reverent Master at the Holy Fruit Temple, The assistant: The light and dust of this world shift swiftly, and my longing to connect with you grows boundless. I yearn for our conversations as one longs for food and drink in hunger and thirst. I trust that your esteemed practice is unceasing and profound, and that you tirelessly guide others without weariness—how fortunate that our tradition remains unbroken! Recently, I had abundant free time and delved into the teachings of the Dharma to deepen my understanding of the mind's nature. I considered writing commentaries but recalled the four discernments of Master Zhu Ling, which already filled me with shame. When I pondered the wonderful words of Master Jing Xi, I felt even more ridicule from others. Without my intention, my disciples all urged me to publish, and I could not stop them. Thus, yielding to their wishes, I dare to seek your noble recognition and praise as well. Truly, this is like a fox borrowing the tiger's might—I rely on your respected authority. Then suddenly, a messenger arrived, bearing your esteemed letter. This reaffirms your long-standing goodwill and our profound bond of virtuous sincerity. Gazing toward you, my heart trembles; my face flushes with mutual admiration and confusion. Now the stars shift and the sacred time for spiritual cultivation draws near. I earnestly hope you will nurture yourself through the Way, to comfort my eager thoughts. As the messenger departs on his errand, I humbly send this note—both as an inquiry and a token of thanks. I humbly beseech you to examine it with clarity. There is more I might say, yet I cease here.
