The *Quanzhou Thousand Buddhas New Verses on the Patriarchs* is a significant text of Chinese Chan Buddhism, compiled by the two Chan masters Jing and Yun of the Quanzhou Thousand Buddhas Monastery during the Five Dynasties period. Composed in the 10th century, this work records in verse form the transmission stories and essential teachings of thirty-three Chan patriarchs, from Mahākāśyapa to Huineng, reflecting the early Chan historical perspective and lineage system. The original text is lost, with only fragmented manuscripts surviving among the Dunhuang documents. As a key scripture for studying the early history and doctrinal evolution of Chan, it not only bears witness to the developmental trajectory of Chinese Chan during the late Tang and Five Dynasties, but also exerted a profound influence on later lamp-record literature, holding immense documentary and religious value.
