The *Fuzong Ji* (Collection on Restoring the Tradition), authored by the Song dynasty monk Yu Xian, is a significant Buddhist treatise. Composed during a period within Song dynasty Buddhism characterized by the integration of Chan (Zen) and doctrinal teachings and sectarian reflection, this work primarily addresses the perceived shortcomings of the Chan school at that time. Its aim is to revive the orthodox teachings of the Tiantai school, emphasizing the equal importance of doctrinal study and meditative insight, as well as the dual cultivation of calming and insight practices. Its core philosophy lies in correcting contemporary malpractices and returning to the authentic Tiantai tradition of Master Zhiyi. This text holds an important place in Buddhist history, serving as a key document of the Tiantai revival movement during the Song dynasty. It exerted a profound influence on the subsequent development of the Tiantai school and, more broadly, on doctrinal analysis and sectarian development within Chinese Buddhism.
