> Puming Chan Master's Ox-Herding Pictures and Verses, with Harmonies by Great Chan Masters

普明原頌。雲棲蓮太師付梓序云。普明。未詳何許人。則亦不知道場之所矣。辛丑冬。予來理坊事。壬寅夏。𨍏轢嚴居士將普明緣起及舊寺圖相示。始知因緣在此。居士既恢復寺基。初請玄微禪師。繼請明巖耆德。殿宇煥然。房僚俱備。將來欲成獅窟。余見諸方和頌。讀之不勝喜躍。效顰和之。并將圖頌和頌。合成一冊流通。

> Preface to the Original Verses of Puming, by Master Yunqi Lian: Puming's origins are unknown—we do not even know where his place of practice was. In the winter of 1601, I came to manage affairs at this temple. In the summer of 1602, the lay practitioner Zhuoli Yan showed me the story of Puming's founding of this place along with a map of the old temple, and only then did I realize that the karmic connections lay here. The lay practitioner, having restored the temple grounds, first invited Zen Master Xuanwei, and then invited the venerable Elder Mingyan. The temple halls now shine with renewed splendor, and all the necessary quarters are complete. In the future, this place is to become a lion's den. When I saw the various verses of response from all directions, I read them with boundless joy. I could not help but follow the example of others and compose my own responses. Together with the maps, the original verses, and these response verses, I have combined them into a single volume for circulation.

> In the first year of the Kangxi reign, during the early autumn month, on this day, residing at Prajna Hall, I, Ru Niankong, respectfully record this. No. 1271
