The *Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra Commentary (Dahui's Explanation)* is a commentary on the *Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra* by the eminent Ming Dynasty monk Dahui Zonggao. This work emerged during the flourishing period of Chinese Chan Buddhism. Its author, Dahui Zonggao, was a distinguished master of the Linji school, renowned for advocating the practice of *kanhua* Chan (observing the critical phrase). This commentary provides a profound exposition of the core principles of the Heart Sutra, focusing on the Prajna doctrine of emptiness. It integrates Chan practice, guiding practitioners to contemplate the emptiness of the five aggregates, break through attachments, and realize ultimate reality. As a key Chan Buddhist text for interpreting the Heart Sutra, it is not only an essential commentary for understanding the Prajnaparamita scriptures but also exemplifies the integration of Chan teachings and doctrine. It holds significant importance in the history of Buddhist thought and the transmission of practice.
