Sixth Vow: The Four Great Vows

Disciples of the Buddha, before I bestow upon you the sublime precepts, you must first truly generate the Bodhi-mind and establish the Four Great Vows. Take refuge in the True Reality, discipline your own mind, and cultivate practices for self and others, progressing from cause to fruition.

However, these True Realms and the Bodhi-mind apply to both the Lesser and Greater Vehicles. Since you now seek the Threefold Pure Precepts of the Great Vehicle, you must rely on the Perfect and Sudden True Reality of effortless purity. In this reality: - Samsara is itself Nirvana, - Afflictions are themselves Enlightenment, - Ignorance immediately becomes wisdom, - Birth-and-death turns into tranquility.

Based on this True Reality, establish the Four Great Vows, integrating both the Lesser and Greater Vehicles. All phenomena are within the Dharma Realm. From the very beginning, the mind encompasses everything: awakening to reality yet observing the realm of delusion, gathering all Buddha-dharmas, and attaining the Three Bodies equally.

You must now focus your mind on this True Reality, speak your vows aloud, join your palms, and sincerely follow me as I chant:

Boundless are sentient beings, I vow to save them all. Endless are afflictions, I vow to cut them all. Infinite are Dharma doors, I vow to learn them all. Supreme is the Buddha's path, I vow to realize it fully.
