### 根本呪品第二

> Chapter 2: The Root Mantra

爾時，世尊為諸大眾說此陀羅尼王：「此呪能成就無上菩提，能除一切罪業身得清淨。」即說呪曰：

> At that time, the World-Honored One proclaimed to the great assembly this supreme mantra: "This mantra can bring about unsurpassed enlightenment and can purify all karmic offenses, making the body pure." Then he spoke the mantra:

「那慕薩婆怛他揭多去南去一唵二肥布羅孽鞞三摩尼去鉢臘二合鞞四怛他上多去那捺儞舍泥五摩尼摩尼六蘇鉢臘鞞七肥摩麗八娑孽囉鉗鼻去囇九吽吽十什皤羅什皤羅二合十一勃陀嚩𡀔枳羝十二麌醯夜二合地瑟恥二合多孽鞞十三莎訶十四」

爾時，世尊說此廣大寶善住祕密樓閣陀羅尼已，於此大地六種震動，雨大寶雨及天妙華。一切大眾咸皆歡喜，歎未曾有，證不退轉。是時，十方諸如來等，同聲讚歎釋迦牟尼如來：「善哉！釋迦牟尼如來！乃能說是入菩薩道場陀羅尼。大眾聞已，一切惡趣皆得消滅。念此陀羅尼名者，則為以諸微妙香華、塗香、粖香，供養十方一切諸佛。若能讀誦，即得不退轉無上正覺，乃至百劫、千劫、百千萬劫，一切如來不能讚歎盡其功德。此陀羅尼有大威力，一切魔王終不能為其障礙。一切怨家、惡友、鬼神、藥叉、羅剎、人非人等，不能為害，增長無量福德。若纔念此陀羅尼者，獲福如是。」

> At that time, after the World-Honored One had spoken this vast, precious, and well-abiding secret tower dhāraṇī, the great earth shook in six ways, a rain of great jewels fell, and heavenly flowers descended. The entire assembly rejoiced, marveling at what had never been before, and attained the irreversible stage. Then, all the Thus-Come Ones of the ten directions praised Śākyamuni Thus-Come One in unison, saying: "Excellent, Śākyamuni Thus-Come One! You have been able to proclaim this dhāraṇī that leads into the bodhisattva's place of awakening. After hearing it, all evil destinies are extinguished for the assembly. Those who recite the name of this dhāraṇī are thereby making offerings of all exquisite incense, flowers, perfumed powders, and unguents to all the buddhas of the ten directions. If one can read and recite it, one will attain irreversible, unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Even over a hundred eons, a thousand eons, or hundreds of thousands of eons, all Thus-Come Ones could not fully praise its merits. This dhāraṇī possesses great power; all demon kings are ultimately unable to create obstacles. All enemies, harmful companions, spirits, yakṣas, rākṣasas, humans, and non-humans cannot cause harm—it increases immeasurable merit. Such are the blessings gained merely by reciting this dhāraṇī."

爾時，執金剛手藥叉軍將及四大天王，於其會中從座而起，恭敬合掌，頂禮佛足，白言：「世尊！我等常當擁護持此陀羅尼者！」爾時，世尊舒金色手，摩執金剛手菩薩及四大天王頂，作是言：「我今以此陀羅尼神呪付囑於汝，若有持此陀羅尼者，汝當擁護。」

> At that time, Vajrapani, the commander of the yaksha army, along with the Four Heavenly Kings, rose from their seats in the assembly. With reverence, they pressed their palms together, bowed at the Buddha’s feet, and said, “World-Honored One, we shall always protect those who uphold this dhāraṇī.” Then the World-Honored One extended his golden hand, touched the heads of Vajrapani Bodhisattva and the Four Heavenly Kings, and said, “I now entrust this dhāraṇī mantra to you. If there are those who uphold this dhāraṇī, you must protect them.”

爾時，執金剛手菩薩及四大天王白佛言：「世尊！我等奉如來教，常護此大陀羅尼法明呪，亦當擁護彼受持者！」

> Then, the Vajra-Bearing Bodhisattva and the Four Heavenly Kings addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honored One! We, following the Tathagata's teaching, shall always protect this great Dharani, the Mantra of Illumination, and shall also guard and support those who uphold it!"
