> Rule 24: On Accepting Robes from Unrelated Nuns

> The Buddha was staying in the city of Śrāvastī, in the garden of Anāthapiṇḍada. A monk gave his own robe to a former nun, causing the same trouble as before. Therefore, this training rule was established.

> If a monk gives clothing to a nun who is not his relative, except in exchange, it is an offense requiring confession.

> When it comes to non-relatives, because non-relatives and nuns often do not consider whether a monk has enough or insufficient robes, they are not like relatives who, out of care and concern, accept only after careful thought. As the World-Honored One said: "If one's own parents are poor and lack food and drink, one should give half of one's own share to them, or encourage donors to provide for them. If one does not follow this, one commits an offense of wrongdoing." Regarding robes, it means those that are appropriate and suitable for receiving and keeping. The six considerations regarding non-relatives and nuns are the same as previously explained. If a nun has been robbed and lacks clothing, even if given by a non-relative, it is not an offense.
