> Chapter 31

古木反通俗文禾𥢶謂之𦮽䅵䅵音奴穀反。機發

> In ancient times, a common saying referred to a type of grain stalk as "nuo guo" \[pronounced nuo gu with a reversed tone\]. The trigger mechanism was set in motion.

說文射發也機主發之機也謂制動轉之󰺚也。溥天

> The \*Shuowen Jiezi\* says: "射 (shè)" means to shoot forth; "機 (jī)" is the mechanism that initiates the shooting. What is called "機" is the device that controls movement and rotation. This is as universal as the vast sky.

今作普同疋古反詩傳曰溥大也亦遍也。
