The "Chart for Discerning the Stages of Eradicating Defilements, Realizing Truth, and the Threefold Enlightenment According to the Five Teachings of the Worthy Leader" compiled by the eminent Qing Dynasty monk Master Xu Fa is an important text of the Huayan school. Based on the system of doctrinal classification into five teachings established by the Tang Dynasty master Fazang of the Worthy Leader tradition, this work systematically analyzes the stages of practice for eradicating afflictions, realizing truth, and the threefold enlightenment—original enlightenment, initial awakening, and ultimate awakening—clarifying easily confused concepts within the doctrine. The author, Xu Fa, was a leading figure in the revival of the Huayan school during the early Qing Dynasty, dedicated to propagating Huayan teachings and contemplation. This work offers an in-depth explanation of the Huayan system of practice stages and holds significant reference value for understanding the doctrinal classification and practice theory of Chinese Buddhism. It is one of the core texts for studying the Huayan school's thought on doctrinal classification.
