菩薩戒有八種殊勝
Eight Supreme Qualities of the Bodhisattva Precepts
何等為八
What are the eight?
一極道勝。受菩薩戒。如大鵬鳥。一舉趐高飛。能至十萬九千餘里。此菩薩戒趣道疾故。發心越六趣。二乘徑趣無上菩提故。
One who follows the Supreme Path and receives the Bodhisattva precepts is like the great roc bird: with one beat of its wings, it soars aloft and can travel over one hundred and nine thousand miles. Because this Bodhisattva precept path is swift, the one who develops this resolve swiftly transcends the six realms of existence, and even surpasses the two vehicles' paths, heading directly toward unsurpassed enlightenment.
二發心勝。一念發大悲智之心。超過二乘境界。如昔有二沙彌。發菩提心。阿羅漢返生恭敬。擔衣幞。讓路而行等。
Two kinds of resolve are superior. A single thought that gives rise to the mind of great compassion and wisdom surpasses the attainments of the two vehicles. This is like the story of two novice monks who awakened the bodhi mind, causing an arhat to show them respect—carrying their robes and bundles, and yielding the path to them.
三福田勝。假使供養滿閻浮提內阿羅漢。不如一大鵬鳥。此鳥先來。受菩薩戒故。
The Three Fields of Merit are supreme. Even if one were to make offerings to all the Arhats throughout the land, it would not compare to making offerings to a single Garuda bird—because this bird had previously taken the Bodhisattva precepts.
四功德勝。受菩薩戒。喻如日光。無所不照。受聲聞戒。猶如螢火。其光甚微。不可相比故。
The four virtues are supreme. Receiving the Bodhisattva precepts is like the light of the sun, which shines everywhere without exception. Receiving the Śrāvaka precepts is like the light of a firefly—its glow is very faint, and the two cannot be compared.
五受罪輕微勝。受菩薩戒之後。設使破戒。猶勝外道不受戒者。外道邪見。永沉惡道。無有出期。破戒之人。戒威力故。設墮惡道。受罪輕微。若墮地獄。作獄中王。若墮畜生。作畜生王。若墮鬼中。作鬼中王。若在人間。作人王國王。若在天中。作天中王。生生之處。不失王位。故經云。有犯名菩薩。有戒可破。無犯名外道。無戒可破故。
六處胎勝。菩薩處胎時。常為天龍八部諸善神王之所守護故。
The state of the womb is supreme. When a bodhisattva resides in the womb, they are constantly protected by the eightfold assembly of devas and nagas, as well as the various benevolent spirit kings.
七神通勝。能變大地為黃金七寶。攪長河為酥酪醍醐。能一念超百千世界。能一日化百千眾生故。
The seven miraculous powers are supreme. They can transform the great earth into gold and the seven treasures. They can churn the long river into ghee and cream. In a single thought, one can surpass hundreds of thousands of worlds. In a single day, one can transform and guide hundreds of thousands of beings.
八果報勝。生蓮華藏海。證法性身。一得真常。永無退轉故。
The eight rewards are supreme: Born in the Lotus Treasury Ocean, Attaining the Dharma-nature Body, Once gained in true eternity, One never retreats.
