> When male and female forms meet, their bodies rub against each other, and this friction does not cease. The senses and their objects stir and agitate. You are drawn to my physical beauty, and I am drawn to your affection. Days and months pile up into years, and the body grows weak and wasted. Sleep brings no peace; the limbs ache in pain, and misery and sorrow weigh one down. At the moment of death, parents, wives, and children are torn apart by grief at the parting. The departed consciousness journeys on through day and night, with nothing to stop it. The body must then endure the iron bed of karmic retribution, suffering for eons without measure or end. This is why the Buddhas, seeing all sensual acts with the eye of wisdom, name them "the fire of desire." Bodhisattvas view lust as if fleeing from a pit of fire. I, along with all beings, from beginningless time to the present, never truly understood how to turn away from sensual desires and avoid this pit of burning lust. Toward inner and outer worlds, toward the bodies of men and women, we become lost in appearances and lost in craving, committing all kinds of shameful deeds. We break our own pure precepts, ruin our own virtue and that of others, bring disgrace upon our families, and destroy names of honor and integrity. We become neither fully male nor female—among the five kinds of non-humans. Even nuns fall into these habits of craving, creating the causes for hell, and suffer immeasurably because of it. Thus, today, with all reverence, I stand before the sages and saints, opening my heart and laying everything bare, seeking mercy and repentance. I pray that the Buddhas of the ten directions, along with Kṣitigarbha and the Compassionate One, pour down the sweet dew of Dharma and wash away the defilements of my wrongdoing. May the beginningless habits of desire in me transform into pure discipline—the foundation of true freedom. May I ultimately reach enlightenment, perfect the virtue of moral conduct, ascend to the stage of great joy, and forever sever the cycle of rebirth.
