> The Twenty-fifth Precept on Taking Robes

> Here is the modern English translation of the passage: --- When one person gives and another takes away, or when one gives and the same person takes back, or when two people give and one takes, or when one gives and two take—all these constitute an offense. There are also four additional scenarios: first, giving separately but taking together; second, giving together but taking separately; third, giving together and taking together; fourth, giving separately and taking separately. All these cases refer to multiple robes. The offense is determined by the act of taking, not by the act of giving. If a person has broken their precepts and lacks proper conduct, taking from them is not an offense. If someone takes robes but does not hide them, or takes them without concealing them, that is also not an offense. --- This translation aims to preserve the meaning while using clear, accessible language for a general audience.
