In the seventeenth year of the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty, Master Yancong compiled the Catalogue of Scriptures by imperial decree, also known as the Sui Catalogue of Scriptures or the Yancong Catalogue. This is a significant Buddhist scripture catalogue from the Sui Dynasty. The entire work is divided into five categories, encompassing a total of 2,109 texts of sutras, vinayas, and treatises, comprising 5,058 volumes. It systematically organizes Buddhist scriptures from the Sui Dynasty and earlier periods, laying the foundation for the formation of later Buddhist canons. As an authoritative document for studying the history of Chinese Buddhist texts and the state of Buddhism during the Sui Dynasty, it holds a pivotal position in connecting the past with the future.
