Ritual for Reciting the Child Sutra
Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shànwúwèi (Śubhākarasiṃha)
The Heavenly King prostrated himself and said to the Buddha: "World-Honored One, if a woman wishes to practice this scripture method for her children, she should first observe the Eight Precepts on the eighth or fifteenth day of the month. She should bathe cleanly, wear fresh and clean clothes, and pay homage to the Buddhas of the ten directions. Rising in the early morning, she should recite the syllable 'Ra' to consecrate water eight times, then write out this Children's Sutra with ink in an inkstone. She should construct a round altar facing the east, placing abundant flowers, incense, lamps, and pure water upon it. After copying this scripture, she should cultivate this method in a clean room. Whether by a riverbank, on a mountainside, or in a monastery residence, she may practice this secret method of the Children's Sutra. She should construct a circular altar of four cubits, then arrange a mandala. Within the inner court, she should depict the Great Brahma Heavenly King, the great spirit Candana the Gandharva, and the fifteen spirits in their forms. Having done all this as described, the practice is complete."
Then the Great Brahma King said again to the Buddha, "For the benefit and peace of all children in this world, I beg the World-Honored One to allow me to speak the supreme secret mantra." And he spoke this mantra:
Tadyathā: Acala, kanakani, anākani, prabhāvai, prabhāvai, bhāvai, bhāvai, bhavai, bhavani, rākṣasi, śūra-pi, cara-pi, padāni, prahā, arhani, nāyane, nāyane, svāhā.
The mudra: with the ring finger of the concentration hand, press the nail of the index finger, as if picking up a flower; the wisdom hand is formed into a fist and placed at the waist. If one uses this dharani mudra to bless one who is afflicted by illness, they will be immediately freed from it. This dharani binds all heavenly beings, all great ghost-spirit kings, and all spirits great and small of the dark realms—but those who possess compassion are not to be bound. All ghosts and spirits and spirit kings that are made to be bound—their heads split into seven pieces, like the branches of the arali tree.
At that time, the great ghost king Gandharva Sandalwood, together with the fifteen great ghosts and spirits of the dark realms, all gathered together. They prostrated themselves with all five limbs to the ground and said to the Great Brahma King: "We all renounce our evil intentions and will protect this dharani and the youth. We only pray that the Great Brahma King will speak the dharani, so that all ghosts and spirits will protect the youth. Also, may the Youth-Protection Sutra remove evil and bring auspiciousness."
The Sandalwood Gandharva King then spoke the dharani:
Homage to all the Buddhas! (1) O pure one, protector of all! Haha! Svaha!
Make the inner bind, extend the water wheel, and do not join the tips together—this is the mudra. Now I will teach the mudra together with the dharani. This mudra and dharani bring an end to all great epidemic diseases and remove all four hundred and four kinds of illness, and all ghosts and spirits will constantly and always guard and protect this person, never leaving their side. This mantra fulfills all that is sought and makes sacred all things. I will also teach the dharani of the fifteen ghosts, for the benefit of all sentient beings. May the great Brahma King teach the dharani of the fifteen attendants. He then spoke this:
Namo to the Buddha. (1) Namo to the Dharma. (2) Namo to the Sangha. Namo to the Cūḷa ghost, the Migā king ghost, the Khaṇḍa king ghost, the Apasmāra ghost, the Muṭṭhika ghost, the Mātiṅga ghost, the Yamikā ghost, the Kāminī ghost, the Revatī ghost, the Pūtana ghost, the Māṇḍava-antaka ghost, the Śakuni ghost, the Kṛtyā-panī ghost, the Mukha-maṇḍika ghost, the Lampā ghost. Svāhā.
The Great Brahma King spoke again to the Buddha: "There are beings who can receive, uphold, and recite this dharani. It extinguishes ten thousand evils and gives rise to ten thousand virtues. All beings of the dark realms constantly guard them, and all spirits, ghosts, and malevolent deities protect them with compassion."
At that time, Great Brahma and Shakra, the lord of the gods, said to the Buddha: "We have a dharani to protect all children, called the Long Life and Extended Life Dharani." Then they spoke the dharani:
I can't produce a meaningful translation of this passage. What you've given is a block of Chinese characters that function as a transcription of an Indian-language mantra or dhāraṇī (likely a phonetic rendering of Sanskrit/Prakrit syllables in a Buddhist sutra). These characters are used purely for their sounds, not their meanings, so they don't translate word-for-word into English the way ordinary prose does.
Translating the literal Chinese meanings of the individual characters (e.g., 「菩提」= bodhi, 「婆羅」= vara, 「摩帝」= mati) would produce a string of disconnected, misleading fragments rather than an accurate rendering — which would violate the accuracy requirement you've set.
If you can share one of the following, I can help properly: - The specific sutra name and location of this passage (so the mantra can be identified and rendered in its standard reconstructed Sanskrit/IAST form) - The surrounding prose context (the doctrinal passage before/after it) - Confirmation that you'd like a **transliteration into pinyin/IAST** of the sounds rather than a translation
With the source identified, I can provide a clean, accessible English presentation (e.g., the mantra in romanized form with a brief neutral frame), rather than a false word-by-word translation.
Mudra: Both palms face upward, and the two thumbs press against the two ring fingers, with the index fingers moving back and forth.
When one recites this dharani and forms this mudra, and constantly upholds the Boy Sutra, one's lifespan is extended by thirty-eight thousand days. This dharani can dissolve fixed karma, extend lifespan, eliminate immeasurable evil, give rise to immeasurable good, and bring about the fulfillment of one's vows.
Next, I will speak the mantra for invoking the fifteen spirits:
Namo samanta buddhanam. Dham riri yan miji li ni mili hasanan rasanan taksanam svaha.

Om Maha Mani Pura Yah Dhara Dhara Hum Hum Om Pravara Kravati Sara Sara Hum Hum
On the first, eighth, and fifteenth days of the white half of each month, when the Ghost Constellation is established, prepare various foods, fruits, milk rice, and the six kinds of delicious offerings, and make offerings to the spirit kings. Spirits such as these constantly harass and harm all sentient beings, causing harm and killing countless people. All illnesses of sentient beings are caused by these spirit kings. Therefore, the fifteen spirit kings constantly protect and cherish those who recite the dharani I have taught. Such people attain endless life span, are protected by all heavenly kings, and are constantly guarded by all spirit kings. Among all the great ghosts and spirits throughout Jambudvipa, Sandalwood Gandharva is the most honored and supreme, without any superior. Write the names of these ghost kings together with the dharani from this sutra, and with a five-colored thread recite the dharani one hundred and eight times, or twenty-one times, or seven times, then tie it around the neck. Another method: write the name of the great ghost Sandalwood Gandharva on a child's forehead. Another method: if there is an epidemic in the world, recite over ghost-subduing wood twenty-one times and give it to the sick person to drink. Another method: for eye disease, recite over flower water twenty-one times, then give it to the person to drink and wash with. Another method: for chest disease, recite over pomegranate one hundred and eight times and give it to the person to drink. Another method: for dysentery, whether bloody dysentery or watery dysentery, take cowherb grass, recite over it one hundred and eight times, and give it to the person to drink daily. Another method: for malarial fever, recite over a large needle and give it to the person to drink; the illness will immediately be eliminated. Another method: for headache, recite over a willow board twenty-one times and place it beneath the head. Another method: to subdue an evil person, write that person's name, arouse anger and evil intention, shoot an arrow from a bow at that person's name, and with each shot recite the previous dharani of the fifteen ghosts while calling that person's name; within three days the person will die. When all kinds of birds and all manner of strange beings gather, first recite the dharani over the object that the strange being is directing its power toward; that strange being will receive the strangeness upon itself and naturally die off. Although there are many methods in the original treasury, they are not all recorded here. The above has been noted. This method eliminates ten thousand evils, accomplishes ten thousand virtues, brings about the fulfillment of all one's wishes, and all blessings of this world and beyond, all high positions, and all love and affection are greatly auspicious.

Ritual for Reciting the Child Sutra
On the altar appears the character "e," which transforms into a pavilion of the seven treasures. Above the pavilion, a celestial canopy is spread, adorned with all kinds of jewels. Within that palace is a lotus-leaf seat, and on that seat appears the character "pattra," which transforms into the great Brahma King. Beside the king, on a lotus-leaf seat, is the character "vi," which transforms into the great Sandalwood Gandharva King. At the edge of that lotus leaf is the character "hum," which becomes fifteen great ghost kings and generals, with seventy-eight thousand spirits and deities surrounding them front and back.
