Sutra of Golden Light, the Most Victorious King

Chapter 8: The Golden Victory Dharani

At that time, the World-Honored One addressed the assembly, speaking to the great being Bodhisattva Shanzhu: "Noble son, there is a dhāraṇī called the Golden Victory. If good men or good women wish to personally see the Buddhas of the past, present, and future, and reverently make offerings to them, they should uphold this dhāraṇī. Why? Because this dhāraṇī is the very mother of all Buddhas—past, present, and future. Therefore, you should know that whoever upholds this dhāraṇī possesses great merit. Having already planted wholesome roots in the presence of countless Buddhas in the past, they are now able to receive and uphold it. Their precepts are pure, without breach or deficiency, free from obstacles, and they are destined to enter the profound Dharma-gate."

The World-Honored One then taught the method for reciting the mantra: first, invoke the names of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas with sincere respect and reverence, and then recite the mantra.

Reverence to all the Buddhas of the ten directions. Reverence to the great Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas. Reverence to all the noble beings of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers.

Here is the translation:

"The Dharani says:"

Namo Ratna Trayaya. Tadyatha, Gunti Gunti, Guzheli Guzheli, Yizhili Mizhili, Svaha.

The Buddha told the bodhisattva Shanzhu, “This dhāraṇī is the mother of all Buddhas throughout the three times. If any good man or good woman upholds this mantra, they will accumulate an immeasurable and boundless store of merit and virtue. This is equivalent to making offerings, honoring, respecting, and praising countless Buddhas. All these Buddhas will then confer upon this person the prophecy of attaining Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhi. Shanzhu! If someone is able to uphold this mantra, whatever they desire—clothing, food, wealth, erudition, wisdom, freedom from illness, and longevity—they will obtain great blessings. Whatever they wish for, all will be fulfilled. Shanzhu! Those who uphold this mantra, even before attaining supreme enlightenment, will dwell together with the bodhisattvas Jinchengshan, Maitreya, Mahāsāgara, Avalokiteśvara, Mañjuśrī, and Mahāpīṅgala. They will be protected and supported by these bodhisattvas. Shanzhu, you should know that when upholding this mantra, one should proceed as follows: first, recite it a total of eighteen thousand times as a preliminary practice. Then, in a dark room, set up a sacred altar. On the first day of the dark fortnight, bathe and purify oneself, put on clean clothes, and make offerings of incense, scattered flowers, and various foods. Entering the altar space, first pay homage to the Buddhas and bodhisattvas mentioned earlier. With utmost sincerity and remorse, repent of past transgressions. Then, kneeling on the right knee, recite the mantra eighteen hundred times. Sit upright, contemplate, and focus on your wishes. Before sunrise, in the altar space, eat only pure vegetarian food, taking just one meal a day, until the fifteenth day, when one emerges from the practice. This practice will bring the person inconceivable merit and power. All wishes will be perfectly fulfilled. If one’s wish is not yet realized, one may re-enter the practice. Once the wish is fulfilled, continue upholding the mantra without forgetting it.”
