### 僧溺死

> The Monk Drowned

百尺竿頭進步未是作家。千尋浪裏翻身方為遊戲。吸盡西江一口水。莫謂同徒踏翻船。不覔蹤由殊非知己。不顧一身沉沒。任教滿腹彭脝。須知落水見長人。不作臨河渴死漢。大眾。且道某人到這田地。作什麼商量。曠刧已前消息斷。是渠水火不相干。

> To progress further from the pinnacle of a hundred-foot pole is not yet mastery. Only by turning over in the thousand-fathom waves can one truly play. Draining the Western River in a single gulp—do not say it's the same as overturning a boat with companions. Not seeking traces and origins is far from being a true friend. Heedless of one's own sinking, letting the belly swell full—know that falling into water reveals the true stature; do not be one who dies of thirst at the river's edge. Great assembly, tell me—when one reaches this state, what is there to discuss? The message from before the vast eon is cut off; for him, water and fire are irrelevant.
