> Transforming Cymbals and Bells

大道不器。明道者假器而求。至理無聲。悟理者緣聲而入。要這个方明那个。自有為始證無為。便須烈火烹成。何惜頑銅打就。一響一答直教眼下聞知。再舉再揚正好聲前薦取。欲憑出手。全賴知音。

> The Great Way is not confined to any vessel. Those who understand the Way use vessels as a means to seek it. The ultimate truth is silent. Those who awaken to it enter through sound. It is through this that one comes to understand that. Starting from the conditioned, one begins to realize the unconditioned. Then one must refine it in a blazing fire—what harm is there in forging from unrefined copper? Each ring and each response let it be heard right before your eyes. Raise it again, proclaim it again—just in time to grasp it before the sound. If you wish to rely on this act, it all depends on one who knows the tune.
