The *Amitābha Sūtra Commentary and Subcommentary*, authored by the eminent late-Ming Dynasty monk Master Lianchi (Zhuhong), is a work of grand structure and profound doctrine. The Qing Dynasty lay practitioner Xu Huaiting extracted its core essentials and compiled them into the book *Essentials of the Amitābha Sūtra Commentary and Subcommentary*. This work distills the essential explanations from the original commentary concerning the Pure Land method, including the analysis of the sūtra's sections and passages, the exegesis of its principles, and the essential points of practice. Its content is both profound and accessible, aiding learners in understanding the Pure Land sūtra's tenets of faith, vow, and recitation of the Buddha's name. As an important abridged commentary of the Pure Land school, this book holds a lofty position within the Buddhist community and serves as a vital reference for studying the Amitābha sūtra and practicing the Pure Land method.
