The Essential Summary of Precepts for Śrāmaṇerikās

The Novice Nun's Precepts: One must not listen to singing, dancing, or music, nor clap hands or keep rhythm. One should not do these oneself, nor teach others to do them. Always cultivate oneself, follow the right path, and avoid wrong actions. With a focused mind, take refuge in the Buddha, recite scriptures, and practice right conduct—finding joy in the Dharma, not in worldly pleasures. Listen to the teachings and contemplate them deeply, entering into their profound meaning. Unless ill, one should not ride in carriages, on horses, or on elephants. Instead, keep in mind the light and lifted state of mind that transcends ordinary thought, and use the reach of inconceivable spiritual powers as one's vehicle to escape the eight difficult conditions. These are the precepts for a novice nun.
