Solemn Practice Site

Dwell in a quiet room. Set up an image of Vairocana Buddha, or Shakyamuni Buddha. Even a painted image is acceptable. However, there must be a Buddha image; it is not permissible to enshrine only a Bodhisattva image. Hang banners, light lamps, and offer incense, flowers, food, and drink as part of the offering. Practice this diligently for seven days, fourteen to twenty-one days, or even a year or three years, at all six periods of the day and night.

If you cannot make offerings every day, you absolutely must not skip the first day. You may continue until you perceive auspicious signs, or simply develop sincere resolve and maintain the practice for life. Whether you recite three times daily, or two times, or just once, keep the practice unbroken. Guard it strictly against any lapse. If you do this, you will certainly be received and supported by all Buddhas.
