三結界
Three Realms
On the first day of practice, before offering prostrations, the practitioner should purify the place of cultivation and properly establish a boundary. Using the supreme sacred mantra, the Maha Shitatapatra, bless pure water and sprinkle it around the four directions to mark the boundary. For those who practice this for life, there is no need for a fixed ritual site. At each session, one may first walk around the image of the Buddha while reciting the mantra once. According to the sutra, wherever this mantra is recited, the land within twelve yojanas becomes a protected boundary. For lay practitioners who cannot recite the full mantra, the Great Compassion Mantra may also be used instead.
