The Sutra of the Buddha's Teaching on the Great Amitābha, compiled and edited by the lay scholar Wang Rixiu of the Southern Song Dynasty, is not a direct translation but a synthesis of essential passages from multiple Chinese translations. This sutra belongs to the fundamental scriptures of the Pure Land school of Buddhism and has been widely circulated in China. The sutra elaborates in detail on the majestic splendor of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss and the Forty-Eight Great Vows made by Amitābha Buddha. Its core teaching is the practice of reciting the Buddha's name, emphasizing that sentient beings, through faith in Amitābha Buddha and the power of their vows, can be reborn in the Pure Land and attain liberation. With its comprehensive system and clear doctrine, this sutra has profoundly influenced the popularization and development of Pure Land faith in Chinese Buddhism, serving as an indispensable and authoritative text for cultivating the Pure Land path.
