### ○法雲寺鐘銘并序

> Inscription on the Bell of Fayun Temple<note>with Preface</note>

元豐七年十月。有詔大老長圓通禪師法秀住法雲寺。寺成。而未有鐘。大檀越駙馬都尉武勝軍節度觀察留後張敦禮與䔬國大長公主唱之。從而和者若干人。元祐元年四月。鐘成萬斤。東埭居士蘇軾為之銘曰。

> In the tenth month of the seventh year of the Yuanfeng era (1084 CE), an imperial decree summoned the venerable elder, Zen Master Faxiu of Changyuan Tong, to reside at Fayun Temple. The temple was completed, but there was as yet no bell. The great patron, Imperial Son-in-Law and Military Governor Zhang Dunli, together with the Grand Princess of the Yi Kingdom, initiated the project. Many others followed their lead in support. In the fourth month of the first year of the Yuanyou era (1086 CE), the bell was completed, weighing ten thousand catties. Su Shi, the hermit of Dongdi, composed an inscription for it, saying:

有鐘誰為撞。有撞誰撞之。三合而後鳴。聞所聞為五。闕一不可得。汝則安能聞。汝聞竟安在。耳視目可聽。當知所聞者。鳴寂寂時鳴。大圓空中師。獨處高廣坐。臥士無所著。人引非引人。二俱無所說。而說無說法。法法雖無盡。問則應曰三。汝應如是聞。不應如是聽。
