The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Wenbao of Fangshan is a compilation of teachings by the eminent Chinese Chan master Wenbao, recorded by his dharma heirs Xiangu and Zudeng, and edited by his dharma grandson Jiyun. Compiled during the Ming-Qing transition, this work documents Master Wenbao's discourses, pointed dialogues, and Chan insights, reflecting the pedagogical characteristics and practice methods of Chan Buddhism at that time. As an important text of the Linji school, it embodies the core Chan teaching of directly pointing to the mind and realizing one's inherent Buddha-nature. It holds significant value for the study of Chan development and intellectual transmission during the Ming and Qing dynasties, standing as an indispensable and authoritative work among Buddhist Chan classics.
