### 竺惠慶

> Diamond Sutra

廣陵人也。清心高邈。識慮虗遠。不修世儀。專篤戒行。溫仁貞素。雅有風德。柔蔬時食。少長一槩。涉學經律。汎研禪誦。誦法華十地維摩思益。雖不南面稱法師。而理懷簡表。晉義熈中。遊步長安。備浪道藝。宋元喜時。復入廬山。求諸德勝。時荊楊大水。襄淩浩汗。慶始達。小雷景風總至。同侶強力先皆入浦。慶船遲重。後來未及。楊侯皷怒。聳浪浮天。慶生平計盡。願望唯佛。於是誦念觀世音。心無異向。岸上之人望見其船。迊風截浪。狀若人牽。俄頃之間。安全到岸。於是散落嚻磨。澄心淨域。遊處之地。莫不弘道。三歸五戒弟子。貴賤數萬人。舉言發響。如風靡草。盛造經書。頻營法集。春秋六十有二。元喜二十九年卒云云。

> A native of Guangling, he was of a pure heart and lofty spirit, with a profound and far-reaching intellect. He did not follow worldly conventions but was devoted wholeheartedly to upholding the precepts. Gentle, kind, and upright by nature, he was elegant and virtuous in demeanor. He ate only simple vegetarian food, maintaining the same practice from youth to old age. He studied the scriptures and vinaya extensively, and delved into meditation and chanting. He recited the Lotus Sutra, the Ten Grounds Sutra, the Vimalakirti Sutra, and the Surangama Sutra. Though he never sat on a high seat to proclaim himself a Dharma master, his understanding of the principles was profound and beyond compare. During the Yixi era of the Jin Dynasty, he traveled to Chang'an, where he fully immersed himself in the arts of the Way. In the Yuanxi era of the Song Dynasty, he entered Mount Lu again, seeking out the most virtuous and accomplished masters. At that time, there was a great flood in Jing and Yang provinces, and the waters of Xiangling swelled vast and boundless. When Qing first arrived, a sudden storm arose with thunderous winds. His companions, being strong and swift, all reached the shore ahead of him. But Qing's boat was heavy and slow, and he lagged behind, unable to reach the shore in time. The wind howled with fury, and towering waves rose to the heavens. Qing, seeing all worldly means exhausted, turned his hopes solely to the Buddha. He then earnestly recited Guanyin's name, his mind undistracted by any other thought. On the shore, people saw his boat cutting through the waves against the wind, as if someone were pulling it along. In a brief moment, it reached the shore safely. Afterward, he cast off worldly entanglements and purified his mind in the realm of clarity. Wherever he traveled and stayed, he never failed to spread the Dharma. His disciples who took the Three Refuges and Five Precepts numbered tens of thousands, both noble and common. When he spoke, his words spread like wind bending the grass. He zealously produced scriptures and frequently held Dharma assemblies. He lived to the age of sixty-two and passed away in the twenty-ninth year of the Yuanxi era.
