> Your letter says: "After awakening, one is still the same as before awakening." This is indeed true as you say. But this matter cannot be resolved through mere speculation—you must actually reach that state to truly understand. It's like when I once read the \*Ode to Lychees\*. At the time, I could only imagine its taste from afar. If someone asked me about it, I could force myself to describe it, but in the end, doubt remained. Although I had tasted it in previous years, I still didn't grasp its deeper flavor. Now that I have fully understood all its varieties and savored every nuance—compared to those earlier times of just reading about it or having only a faint sense of its taste—how could the difference not be as vast as heaven and earth? Thus, if you can truly let your mind settle here, countless differences naturally vanish in a single thought. If you then try to find a point of doubt, you won't find it anywhere. I suspect you, Layman, have already reached this state—it is beyond the understanding of someone like me. Now, I ask you: Before your parents gave birth to you, what was your original face? Please send word of this understanding.
