> Appeal for Rice Offerings to Monks at Jingshan Monastery's Main Hall

> The Western Pure Land lies tens of thousands of realms away, with mindful recitation of the Buddha's name as its provision. Mount Double Path stands three thousand six hundred zhang high, with simple meals of porridge and rice as its daily necessity. If one abandons stillness and enters into worldly entanglements, one cannot avoid being dragged down by worldly concerns. But if one retreats deep into the mountains, far from markets, how will one satisfy hunger and poverty? Although one may wish to roam freely among misty peaks, living a transcendent life of ease, could one truly survive by merely sipping clear breezes all day? To settle the mind on the Path, four basic requisites must not be lacking—this depends entirely on the support of generous donors. Now, Mount Double Path is one of the most famous mountains in the Two Zhejiang regions, revered throughout the land. It stands majestic and solitary among the peaks; its Way is preeminent under heaven. The imperial brush has been bestowed here multiple times; Emperor Gaozong once halted his royal chariot here. Renowned poets have celebrated it; Su Dongpo left his inscriptions. Its dignity and splendor rival the Tusita Heaven, while its serene stillness transcends the mundane. As ancients once said: "A hundred thousand pines and cedars shroud the distant Double Path; three thousand pavilions and towers nestle in the five peaks." In recent times, however, it has fallen into decline, utterly unlike its former glory. Elegant visitors lament antiquity; travelers passing by sigh with sorrow. As years stretch on, recovery becomes difficult. Previously, Master Wubian restored the main hall; later, Abbot Yuan renovated the meditation hall. As a result, traveling monks have come in an unbroken stream, and great practitioners gathered in abundance. But for a time, we were unable to properly host them, failing in the bonds of hospitality. With no other recourse, we must rely on the support of generous benefactors. Therefore, we take this matter to heart and compose this appeal on behalf of the monastery.
