### 募造鏡臺山大師菴引

> Fundraising for the Master's Hut at Jingtai Mountain

事逢時會。緣得因成。非偶然者也。鏡臺山大師菴者。即高峰大師藏衣鉢處也。吾徒麥浪。隨予雲門度夏。簡禪宗或問。後見雲棲大師。以高峰海底泥牛話相詰。予時以傍僧推出。乃云。大眾證盟。麥浪一見。似有所得。至今十餘年矣。入苕溪為卓海幢居士所知。請就武康。開向上事。感徒眾剖心。以詶法恩。道士捨邪而趣正見。使狂者獲醒。惡者從善。繇是遠近歸依。兢思甘露。故卓君等。為卜古址。以彰大師之遺踪。建禪室以棲十方之龍象。刀耕火種。鑿石栽蓮。池中得二龕。一藏佛影。一藏衣鉢。體質雖朽。而顏色尚鮮。時節雖遐。而因緣不爽。昔雲棲舉話。麥浪傳虗。居士結菴。遺踪復證。此因緣會遇。不謀而然者也。凡我在會之眾。寧非大師之遺塵乎。故根椽片瓦。各發自心。粒米文錢。隨力喜捨。可謂良會難逢。爭先莫讓。

> A meeting of circumstances and timing is not a matter of mere coincidence. The Shizu Taishi Hut at Jingtai Mountain is where the great master Gaofeng once stored his robe and bowl. My disciple Mailang accompanied me to Yunmen for summer retreat, and we discussed the text \*Questions on Chan\*. Later, when we visited Master Yunqi, he questioned us about Gaofeng's story of the "mud ox at the bottom of the sea". At the time, I had a fellow monk standing nearby speak up, saying, "The assembly bears witness." Upon hearing this, Mailang seemed to gain some insight. Now, over ten years later, he has arrived at Tiaoxi, where he was recognized by the layman Zhuo Haichuang. Invited to Wukang, he taught on the theme of "the higher path", inspiring his followers to offer their heartfelt devotion in gratitude for the Dharma. Taoists abandoned their erroneous views and turned to correct understanding; the reckless became sober, and the wicked turned to goodness. Thus, from far and near, people came to take refuge, eager for the sweet dew of Dharma. For this reason, Zhuo and his companions chose an ancient site to honor the great master's legacy, building a Chan hall to shelter the dragons and elephants (great practitioners) from all directions. They tilled the soil with knives, planted and harvested by fire, carved stone, and planted lotuses. In the pond, they discovered two reliquaries: one containing an image of the Buddha, the other holding a robe and bowl. Though the materials had decayed, the colors remained vibrant. Though time had passed, the karmic conditions were not in vain. In the past, Yunqi raised the question, Mailang transmitted the truth, and now the layman builds a hut, confirming the legacy once more. This confluence of conditions occurred without planning—a matter of pure synchronicity. All of us gathered in this assembly—are we not the lingering traces of the great master's influence? Therefore, every beam and tile comes from our own hearts; every grain of rice and single coin is freely and joyfully offered. Such an excellent gathering is rarely encountered, so let us all strive forward without hesitation.
