### 月夜即事

> Moonlit Night Reflections

明月白如晝。偏爽幽人懷。朗然一吟賞。整裓幾徘徊。溪聲清且寂。松影合還開。列坐青山伴。當空瀑布來。石橋拳枕睡。游夢入天台。時逢二三叟。形古貌󳭪偉。談玄洞肺腑。開我積生迷。擕手道宿契。徐往不思回。持笻渡石㵎。點破溪中苔。直上絕峰頂。頂上有瓊臺。名花與茂竹。玉樹珊瑚柴。珍寶砌樓閣。瑤池珠翠培。仙桃大如斗。神棗尺一枚。異味世無識。瓊漿琥珀杯。高歌復長嘯。其樂真奇哉。欲別不忍去。又被鳥聲催。醒來在橋上。再四自疑猜。不意此是夢。依依空抱腮。尋思不可再。遐想何崔嵬。人事亦如此。得喪胡欣哀。

> The bright moon shone as if it were day, Its cool light soothed the quiet heart. Clear and at ease, I chanted my praise, Adjusting my robe, I lingered a while. The stream's sound was pure and still, Pine shadows merged and parted. We sat in rows with green hills for companions, A waterfall came right before us. I rested my head on the stone bridge as a pillow, And in a dream wandered to Tiantai. I met two or three old men, With ancient forms and majestic looks. They spoke of mysteries that penetrated my heart, Clearing the confusion of many lives. Hand in hand, they spoke of past bonds, Walking slowly, I thought not of return. With a staff, I crossed the rocky stream, Touching the moss in the creek. Straight up to the mountain peak, Where atop stood a jade terrace. Famous flowers and lush bamboo, Jade trees and coral branches. Precious gems adorned the towers, Jade pools nurtured pearls and emeralds. Immortal peaches large as dippers, Divine dates each a foot long. Strange flavors unknown in the world, Jade nectar in amber cups. Loud songs and long cries, Such joy was truly wondrous. Wanting to leave but unable to bear it, I was urged on by the birds' calls. Awakening on the bridge, I wondered again and again. Never expecting this was a dream, I sat there dazed, empty arms hugging my cheeks. Thinking, I cannot return to it, How lofty and deep those distant thoughts! Human affairs are just like this— In gain and loss, why be happy or sad?
