師心匪石何其堅師心匪法何所傳傳之者妄得之者筌師之道惟此而已固不在言

余以弘法罹難蒙恩遣雷陽以萬曆丙申春仲謁曹溪六祖大師以行役迫促不遑寧止惟此一瞻禮光相說偈贊嘆而去越二年戊戌孟夏既望適觀察海門周公以入賀相携因再過曹溪得覩信具故各為言以志之

> <note>I was once exiled to Leiyang for my efforts in spreading the Dharma, and in the spring of 1596, I visited Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, at Cao Creek Temple. But due to the urgent demands of my official duties, I couldn't stay long. I could only pay my respects, offer a verse of praise, and then took my leave. Two years later, in the summer of 1598, I accompanied Governor Zhou Haimen, who was going to the capital to pay tribute, and we went to Cao Creek Temple again. This time, I had the opportunity to see the sacred belongings of the patriarch, so I wrote this account to commemorate the event.</note>
