Xu Xingshan's "Commentary on the Diamond Sutra with Structural Analysis" is a significant Yuan Dynasty commentary on Kumārajīva's translation of the Diamond Sutra. The author, Xu Xingshan, was a distinguished monk of the Huayan school during the Yuan period. Based on Huayan thought, he provided a structural analysis and exegesis of the Diamond Sutra. This work systematically organizes the scripture's structure through doctrinal classification, elucidates the Prajñā teaching of emptiness, and integrates the Tathāgatagarbha doctrine. Holding a pivotal position in Buddhist history, this commentary both inherits the exegetical traditions of the Tang and Song dynasties and reflects the syncretic trends of Yuan and Ming Buddhism. It is a key text for the study of the Diamond Sutra and the process of Buddhism's Sinicization, highly valued by scholars both within and outside the Buddhist community.
