The Diamond Scalpel: One Volume, with Preface
斯文雖非常途經論亦欲效之以分三段從初至凡一念為序段從曾於靜夜下至與子相遇為正說段下去為流通段正中大略開為十段初正立宗旨次從於是野客下會異名三從故知世人下簡非顯是四從余欲開導下出法正體五從客曰仁所立義下辨法攝六從余曰觀子所見下顯體所歸七從然子所領下明法師承八從客曰屢聞下去迷從悟九從客曰斯失下判教所屬十從當知一乘下撚撮改束此是論主自料故錄於首。
Although this text does not follow the conventional structure of a sutra or treatise, I will emulate it by dividing it into three sections: from the beginning to "凡一念" as the introductory section, from "曾於靜夜" to "與子相遇" as the main exposition section, and the remainder as the concluding section. Within the main exposition, it is roughly divided into ten parts: first, establishing the central doctrine; second, from "於是野客" onward, harmonizing different terms; third, from "故知世人" onward, distinguishing what is not from what is; fourth, from "余欲開導" onward, presenting the true essence of the Dharma; fifth, from "客曰仁所立義" onward, clarifying the scope of the Dharma; sixth, from "余曰觀子所見" onward, revealing the ultimate goal; seventh, from "然子所領" onward, explaining the transmission of the Dharma; eighth, from "客曰屢聞" onward, transitioning from confusion to awakening; ninth, from "客曰斯失" onward, categorizing the teachings; tenth, from "當知一乘" onward, summarizing and refining the discussion. This is the author's own outline, hence recorded at the beginning.
