The "Illustrated Treatise on Hidden Virtue" is a Buddhist moral instruction text that combines paintings with written teachings. Illustrated by the Qing Dynasty painter Fei Danxu and compiled with textual annotations by scholar Xu Guangqing, this work centers on the "Treatise on Hidden Virtue of Lord Wenchang." Through Fei Danxu's vivid illustrations and Xu Guangqing's detailed textual research and commentary, it explains the principles of accumulating virtue, performing good deeds, and the law of cause and effect. Created during the Qing Dynasty when moral instruction literature flourished, the work aimed to educate the public through its integrated visual and textual approach. It holds a unique place in the history of Buddhist folk beliefs and the dissemination of moral texts, serving as an important pictorial and textual resource for studying Qing Dynasty Buddhist art and moral education thought.
