> Zen Master Shengmo Guang

舉九峯不肯首座公案。頌曰。元座徒亡一炷烟。九峯豈是抑高賢。若將一色為承紹。孤負先師不借緣。示眾。舉麻谷振錫話曰。是無可是。非無可非。是非無主。萬善同歸。梟鷄晝夜徒自支離。我無三寸。鼈得喚龜。迦葉不肯。一任攢眉。

> The Case of Jiufeng Not Approving the Head Monk, with Verse: The verse says: The head monk's seat was lost, like a wisp of smoke vanishing. How could Jiufeng intend to belittle a wise one? If one clings to a single color as the inherited teaching, one betrays the late master, who did not rely on borrowed conditions. A discourse to the assembly: Raising the case of Mago shaking his staff, it is said: "What is So is beyond affirmation; what is Not-So is beyond denial. Affirmation and denial lack an owner, yet all goodness returns to the same source. The owl and the rooster, night and day, merely exhaust themselves in false distinctions. I have no three inches—what does a turtle have to do with being called a tortoise? When Kasyapa did not approve, let him furrow his brows all he wishes."
