## 靈峰蕅益大師選定淨土十要卷第九

> Essential Points of Pure Land, Volume 9, Selected by Master Ouyi of Lingfeng

述曰。靈峰老人云。昔人列蓮宗七祖太局。只如天台教主坐不背西。臥必合掌。其發明淨土如堂堂之陣。正正之旗。無敢與敵。又如法眼冢孫晝夜彌陀十萬聲。萬善莊嚴安養。其發明淨土。如大將軍令出如山無敢動者。非皆蓮宗列祖乎。天台幽溪無盡師。奉慈雲行願為日課。講自所述生無生論。每一登座。天樂臨虗。臨終畫空書妙經題屹然而化。以為蓮宗嫡裔何媿焉。淨要中收幽溪兩作。今會為一要。近代諸師。公其絕倡矣。

> Master Lingfeng once said: "It is too restrictive that past scholars listed only seven patriarchs of the Pure Land School. For instance, the founder of the Tiantai School never sat with his back to the west and always slept with his palms together. His teachings on the Pure Land were like a well-ordered battle formation—impeccable and unmatched. Similarly, the Dharma Heir of the Fayan School chanted the name of Amitabha one hundred thousand times day and night, adorning the Land of Peace and Nourishment with myriad virtues. His exposition of the Pure Land was like a great general’s command—immovable and unquestionable. Are these not patriarchs of the Pure Land School as well?" "Master Youxi Wujin of Tiantai took the ‘Vows and Practices of the Compassionate Cloud’ \[Master Zunshi\] as his daily practice and taught his own composition, the Treatise on the Birthless \[Mind\]. Every time he ascended the teaching seat, celestial music filled the sky. At his death, he traced the title of the Lotus Sutra in the air and passed away peacefully. How could he be unworthy of being a direct heir of the Pure Land tradition? The Essentials of Pure Land \[compilation\] includes two works by Master Youxi. Now I have combined them into a single text. Among modern masters, his verse stands as the unrivalled pinnacle."
