### 二惟心淨土者

> Two: Pure Land of the Mind

直下自證當體無心即是淨土。維摩經。直心是菩薩淨土。菩薩成佛。不諂眾生來生其國。深心是菩薩淨土。菩薩成佛。具足功德眾生來生其國。大乘心是菩薩淨土。菩薩成佛大乘眾生來生其國。乃至欲得淨土當淨其心。隨其心淨則佛土淨。夫心是即土之心。土是即心之土。心淨土淨法爾如故。此語豈非西方註脚。多有執心之士。卑西方法門為單接鈍根者。由心外見土故也。夫念即是心。念佛豈非心淨。心本含土。蓮󳬛豈在心外。故知約相非乖惟心。稱心實礙普度矣。

> Directly realize it for yourself: when the present mind is without a self, that is the Pure Land. As the Vimalakīrti Sūtra says, "An upright mind is the bodhisattva's Pure Land. When a bodhisattva attains Buddhahood, beings without deceit are born in his land. A profound mind is the bodhisattva's Pure Land. When a bodhisattva attains Buddhahood, beings with complete merit are born in his land. A Mahāyāna mind is the bodhisattva's Pure Land. When a bodhisattva attains Buddhahood, Mahāyāna beings are born in his land." Furthermore, "If you wish to attain the Pure Land, you must purify your mind. As the mind is purified, the Buddha land is purified." The mind is the mind that is the land, and the land is the land that is the mind. When the mind is pure, the land is pure—this is the natural truth. Doesn't this passage serve as a footnote for the Western Land of Bliss? Many who cling to the concept of mind belittle the Western Pure Land method, regarding it as only suited for dull practitioners. This is because they see the land as existing outside the mind. But mindfulness is the mind—how could reciting the Buddha's name not purify the mind? The mind inherently contains the land—how could the lotus pedestal exist outside the mind? Therefore, we know that understanding in terms of conventional phenomena does not contradict the principle of mind-only; in accord with the mind, it truly facilitates the universal salvation of all beings.
