### 二淨信者

> Two Kinds of Pure Faith

智度論。有信清淨。能入佛法。無信不能入。如牛皮未柔不可屈折。又經說信為手。入寶山自在能取。無手不能取。昔王仲回問無為子。如何念佛得無間斷。曰。一信之後更不再疑。即是不間斷。回欣躍而去。未幾得生。還來致謝。是故若未能頓悟。當深植信根。不驚不動。一信金口誠言決定當生。二信自心廣大具有如是清淨功德。三信因果如形影決定相隨。四信此身形識及一切世界如陽𦦨空花無所有。五信五濁惡世寒熱苦惱薉相熏炙不容一刻居住。六信一切法唯心如憶梅舌酸。七信念力不可思議如業力。八信蓮胞不可思議如胞胎。九信佛無量身無量壽無量光不可思議。如蟻子身蜉蝣歲螢火光。十信此身決定當死。若具如是信根。舉足下足無非念佛。故知信之一字通上中下。若無甚深信力。如無羽之鳥定不得飛。

> Wisdom Treatise says: With faith and pure clarity, one can enter the Buddha’s teachings; without faith, one cannot. It is like raw cowhide—inflexible and unable to be shaped. The sutras also say that faith is like a hand: entering a mountain of treasure, you can freely take what you want, but without a hand, you cannot take anything. In the past, Wang Zhonghui asked the Master of Non-Action, “How should one recite the Buddha’s name without interruption?” The master replied, “Once you have faith, never doubt again. That is non-interruption.” Wang left joyfully, and not long after, was reborn \[in the Pure Land\], returning to express his gratitude. Therefore, if you cannot attain sudden enlightenment, you must deeply plant the roots of faith—unshaken and undisturbed. First, believe that the golden-mouthed, true words of the Buddha determine your rebirth. Second, believe that your own mind is vast and possesses such pure virtues. Third, believe in cause and effect, which follow each other like a shadow and its form. Fourth, believe that this physical body, consciousness, and all worlds are like a mirage or a flower in the sky—without true existence. Fifth, believe that this evil world of the Five Turbidities—with its cold, heat, suffering, and defilements—cannot be tolerated for even a moment. Sixth, believe that all phenomena are only mind, like recalling a plum makes your mouth water. Seventh, believe that the power of faith is inconceivable, just like the power of karma. Eighth, believe that the lotus womb is inconceivable, just like a human womb. Ninth, believe that the Buddha has countless bodies, countless lives, and countless light—inconceivable, like the body of an ant, the life of a mayfly, or the light of a firefly. Tenth, believe that this body will certainly die. If you possess such roots of faith, every step you take is none other than reciting the Buddha. Therefore, know that the single character “faith” encompasses people of all capacities—high, middle, and low. Without a deeply rooted power of faith, you are like a bird without wings—you will surely never fly.
