With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, Father of Truth, whose face is full of compassion. Willingly give up all the wrongs I have done, And free me from the deceitful friendships of demons.
O highest Light of wisdom, Might amidst might, O sweetest Dew of truth, King amidst knowledge, Giver to all beings of the Wish-Fulfilling Gem, Lead me across, and save me from this deep sea of fire.
With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, Savior from suffering, the one without partiality. Spread out Your vast wings of compassion, And let me escape the birds of Mara that snatch at me.
This ignorant flesh and all its retinue— They are children born in the deep, dark pit. Within and without, all demon-natures block and choke, Always harming my pure, clear body.
No fierce beast can compare with them, No poisonous snake can be likened to them. They are like the bitter wind and frost of late autumn, Blowing away all good seeds...
With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, Great Physician, fair in deeds, perfect in knowledge. The good friend, once found, heals all sickness; The kind-hearted, once met, finds joy and peace.
Both hindered and hindrance-free, these bodies and natures Have long been drowning in the ocean of birth and death. Their limbs are scattered through the three realms— Please gather them and lift them up, beyond all existence.
Do not let the stream of true Dharma be cut off, Do not let us be thrown into the mouths of demons. Send down Your great power of compassion and wisdom, And revive all the enlightened natures suffering their woes.
Do not let the demon-armies capture us again, Do not let the enemy return to slay us once more. With Your wings of light and merciful protection, Forgive me the sins of both body and nature.
Only grant that You stretch out Your great, compassionate hand, And lay it upon my three pure Dharma-bodies. Wipe away the tangled bonds of countless eons, Wash away the dust of countless ages.
Open my Dharma-nature's bright eyes, That I may see clearly the Body that dwells in four places. Seeing clearly the Body that dwells in four places, I will escape the four kinds of bitter hardship.
Open my Dharma-nature's bright ears, That I may hear the wondrous Dharma-sound without obstruction. Hearing the wondrous Dharma-sound without obstruction, I will escape all the false and crooked voices of the world.
Open my Dharma-nature's bright mouth, So I may fully praise the Three Constants and Four Dharma-bodies. Praising the Three Constants and Four Dharma-bodies, I will leave behind all confused and deluded hymns.
Open my Dharma-nature's bright hands, So they may touch the Four Still-Bodies of Thusness everywhere. Touching the Four Still-Bodies of Thusness everywhere, I will escape sinking into the Four Great Calamities.
Untie the feet that have been bound for so many years, So I may walk the true path of the Three Constants. Walking the true path of the Three Constants, I will quickly reach the Land of Peace and Joy.
Let me return to my original True-Thus Heart, Clear, pure, bright, and ever tranquil. Clear, pure, bright, and ever tranquil, I will be forever free from confusion and all false views.
May I always see my compassionate Father, Never again revolving in the pain of birth and death. My senses are purified, my mind is awakened, Let me not be lost again in dullness and ignorance.
Now I take refuge in the Great Holy One, Let me never again sink into the path of death. Quickly send down Your bright, compassionate hand, Do not abandon me to the mouths of demons again.
With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, Send down great compassion to shield me always. Forgive the wrongs I have done through countless eons, Just as You forgave all beings in ages past.
I am a lamb of the Great Holy Light, Weeping and crying, I pour out my grievance. Suddenly, jackals, wolves, and savage beasts Snatched me away from the kind, shining Shepherd.
Send down great compassion, please take me back, And place me among the gentle flock of light. Let me dwell on the beautiful mountain of Dharma-forest, And roam there freely, without any fear.
I am also the holy seed of the Great Light, Thrown into a thicket of thorns and briars. Send down great compassion, please gather me up, And bring me to the shining barn of the Dharma-field.
I am also the holy vine of the Great Light, Planted long ago in the pure garden of Dharma. Suddenly, wild creepers wound themselves around me, Sucking my strength and making me wither.
I am also the fertile earth of the Great Light, Where the devil planted the five poisonous trees. I only hope for the sharp sickle of the Law, To cut them down and burn them, making all clean.
The rest of the evil weeds and thorns— Let the fire of your precepts burn them all away. Let the fifteen kinds of sprouts flourish and grow, Let the fifteen forces unfold...
I am also the fine, new garment of the Great Light, Suddenly stained with the dust of demons. I only hope for the water of Dharma to wash me clean, So I may wear the pure body of the Dharma-kaya.
With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, O Tree of Life, adorned with a multitude of jewels, Most excellent, peerless, the Wonder-Healer, Perfect in peace, pure deeds, and all goodness.
Eternal and glorious, this Jewel-Tree is the Sea of Life, Its roots are firm, a diamond-hard body. Its trunk is true, free from false speech, Its branches are long and strong, always in joy.
Complete with a multitude of jewels, its leaves are compassion, Its fruit is the Sweet Dew, ever fresh and not withered. Whoever eats it will forever end the stream of death, And its fragrance will fill the entire world.
Now I have the Great Holy One, and I seek long life, The eternal glorious tree that revives the Dharma-nature. Wisdom is pure and empty, yet ever vigilant; It is the fruit of the Mind-King's skillful discernment.
With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, O King of Dharma, the Buddha Jesus, full of wisdom. Let my physical body always be healthy, Let my Buddha-nature have no entanglements or stains.
At all times, increase my mindfulness, And let me escape from all the swallowing mouth of demons. Let me escape from the swallowing mouth of demons, And be forever separated from evil deeds and greed...
Place me in the fragrant forest of flowers and wondrous Dharma, Place me in the pure and gentle flock of lambs. Let the foundation of my faith be forever firm, Let me enter into a state worthy of praise.
With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, Compassionate Father, Dharma-King, Lord of Life. You save my soul from disaster, You make my pure body always joyful.
You are the one who brings relief, who rescues the suffering; You are the one who shows compassion, who forgives faults. You give comfort to my enlightened nature, You are the refuge for my pure body.
You can shatter the mountain of knives and the forest of swords, You can subdue lions, poisonous snakes, and vipers. You can heal diseases that are hard to cure, You can help me part from favors that are hard to forget.
Now I firmly grasp the handle of the Dharma-gate, The Great Holy One, in compassion, always shields me. With devotion, I praise the name of the Compassionate Father. So may it ever be, with deepest reverence and sincerity! With earnest cries, I open my heart to You, Father of Truth, whose face is full of compassion. Willingly give up all the wrongs I have done, And free me from the deceitful friendships of demons.
