劓鼻魚忌反占之刑名也鄭注周禮云劓截鼻也孔注尚書云劓割也說文從刀鼻聲也或從臬作㓷亦通也。

> Cutting off the nose<note place="inline">The punishment of cutting off the nose is mentioned in ancient Chinese law. According to Zheng's commentary on the Rites of Zhou, "Yi" means cutting off the nose. Kong's commentary on the Book of Documents states that "Yi" means to cut. The Shuowen dictionary explains that the character is formed with the radical for knife and the sound of "nose." Alternatively, it can be written as "㓷" with the radical for a wooden frame, which is also acceptable.</note>.

刖足危厥反亦古之刑名也經史互說不同或名剕刑或名𩪯刑皆一也民有越關梁踰城郭為掠盜者則刖其足考聲斷足也或作跀跀刑之屬五百也。

> Cutting off the feet<note place="inline">"Cutting off the feet" (危厥反) is also an ancient punishment. Different classics and histories explain it differently—some call it the "punishment of cutting off the feet" (剕刑), others the "punishment of severing the shins" (𩪯刑), but they all refer to the same thing. If a person crosses a border pass or climbs over city walls to commit robbery, then their feet are cut off. According to the "Kao Sheng" (Examination of Sounds), this means cutting off the feet. It is also written as "跀," and punishments involving cutting off the feet number five hundred in total.</note>.
