The Jianzhou Hongshi Lu, compiled by the eminent Ming dynasty monk Yuanxian, is a biographical work documenting the Buddhist history of the Jianzhou region in Fujian. The text is divided into volumes recording the conduct, teachings, and temple histories of Jianzhou's eminent monks from the Tang dynasty to the early Ming, encompassing figures from the Chan, doctrinal, and Vinaya schools. Compiled by Yuanxian against the backdrop of Buddhist revival in the late Ming, the work aimed to preserve local Buddhist records and sustain the transmission of the Dharma lineage. This text provides valuable historical material for the study of Buddhism in the Min region, serving as an important representative of regional Buddhist historiography and holding significant academic value for understanding the localization of Ming Buddhism and the development of its schools.
