The *Jideng Lu* (Record of the Continuing Lamp), compiled by the eminent Ming dynasty monk Yuanxian, is a significant historical and biographical work of the Chan (Zen) school. Compiled against the backdrop of a Buddhist revival in the late Ming period, its purpose was to carry forward the tradition of "lamp records," systematically collecting the biographies, encounter dialogues, and lineage transmissions of Chan masters from the Song dynasty through the late Ming. Its contents encompass various schools such as the Linji and Caodong lineages, emphasizing the mind-to-mind transmission and the master-disciple relationship. It serves as a core text for the study of Chan history during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Holding a prominent position in Buddhist history, it is regarded as both a continuation and a summation of the lamp-record genre, exerting a profound influence on the later development of Chan thought and the investigation of Dharma lineages.
