### 自述真讚

> Self-Praise

禪人圖吾真。請吾讚。噫圖之既錯。讚之更乖。確命弗遷。因塞其意。

> A Zen practitioner asked me to paint my true likeness and write a praise for it. Alas! Painting it was already a mistake, and praising it even more so. Since he firmly insisted and would not relent, I composed this to satisfy his request.

一幅素繒。丹青模勒。謂吾之真。乃吾之賊。吾真匪狀。吾貌匪揚。夢電光陰五十一。桑梓玉山俗姓章。

> A plain silk canvas, painted and sketched—they call it my true likeness. But it is my thief. My true form has no shape; my appearance holds no glory. Like a dream, like lightning—fifty-one years fleeting. From the jade mountains of my homeland, common surname Zhang.
